Canaco Servytur Chetumal-Tulum, a business chamber, reports that crossings by Belizeans fell from about 50,000 to about 20,000 a month. A trade mission with a binational assessment began on October 22, 2026.

On October 27, 2026 the Senate approved raising the DNR from 983 to 1,158 pesos per foreign visitor (17.8%). It is expected to apply from January 1, 2027, but no publication is on record.
